Our Story

After Ghana's independence, the country adopted an import-substitution industrialization policy, with the state leading manufacturing development alongside multinational companies. However, to promote local participation, a small group of Ghanaian industrialists, led by Dr. (Mrs) Esther Afua Ocloo, formed the Federation of Ghana Industries in 1957 to protect indigenous manufacturers. In 1961, the Federation expanded to include state-owned and foreign companies, becoming the Ghana Manufacturers’ Association. By 1984, it further broadened its scope to include other industry sectors and was renamed the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI).
